National Night Out

National Night Out (NNO) is a drug and crime prevention event. It links residents with police, civic groups, businesses and local officials. It occurs each summer.

According to its website, National Night Out:  

• Raises drug and crime prevention awareness
• Creates support for local anti-crime programs
• Strengthens neighborhood spirit
• Supports police and community partnerships
• Sends a message to criminals

Millions of people across the country take part in NNO each year. Dozens of cities and towns in the state are among those involved.

We attended Meriden’s event in 2008 and 2009. We were also at Hamden’s event in 2009.
