Arrow Faithfully Fit

Faithfully Fit is a faith-based nutrition initiative. It took place in the fall of 2007. Thirty parishioners from six African-American churches in Bridgeport signed on. They engaged in a fun and healthy fitness challenge, which lasted eight weeks.

Mentors of different medical, fitness and nutrition backgrounds taught participants at each weekly session. Each session included meals made by a dietician. This was done to show them what a healthy menu consisted of. It also showed that these foods could be tasty while being healthy. To get in better shape, participants practiced yoga and kickboxing with the guidance of a personal trainer. These trainers encouraged the participants to set fitness goals. They also showed them what they needed to do to meet those goals.

Winners won cash prizes. The winnings were given to the team?s parish. Prizes ranged from $1,000 to $3,000. Individuals also received small merit awards.

CHNCT?s mission in creating Faithfully Fit was to provide the skills, knowledge and activities one needs to stay in top physical, spiritual and mental health.
