The Amazing Sun Race

The Amazing Sun Race is an annual event for New Haven area high school students. During the daylong event, teams of students compete against one another in a series of mental and physical challenges. Each is designed to test the intelligence and endurance of all team members. Teams typically consist of five students plus one teacher.

The top teams receive cash awards for their schools. All other teams receive prizes.

If you would like to participate in the next The Amazing Sun Race and are a teacher at a New Haven high school, please contact Jenn Manes at jmanes@chnct.org or 203.949.4053.

The Amazing Sun Race 2008

Hill Regional Career Magnet High School came out on top in the 2008 race. The team, led by teacher Joe Ferreira, made a huge comeback after being in second to last place at the race’s midpoint. The team kept a positive attitude throughout the race. The team never gave up.

The following teams also competed and placed in the 2008 race:

First Place: Hill Regional Career Magnet High School

Second Place: The Sound School

Third Place: Hyde Leadership

Fourth Place: High School in the Community; Riverside Academy

Fifth Place: Wilbur Cross High School

The 2008 race had students scrambling across the cities of New Haven and Hamden. Each challenge in the 2008 race had an environmental or “green” theme. The top four teams won cash prizes for their respective schools. The monies had to be used for educational purposes.
